18th Aug 2008 - Leaving Dublin in the Rain

We left Dublin at 12 noon and headed straight for Rosslare.

Even though the weather was a little grey, it was a really excellent feeling to be going on a bike trip for over a month.  I remember as we waited at the toll bridge on the M50 - I shouted ecstatically at Ado, who was on the road beside me, how this was going to be the "best holiday ever!"

Five Seconds later Ado drove on though the barrier and the barrier came down and hit him in the face, almost knocking him and the bike to the ground.  I've no idea how he held on to the bike I though it was a proper spill for sure. 10km into our 8000km journey and Crash#1 is done.  It was actually the guy at the toll's fault.  Ado collected himself (and his visor which was knocked off in the impact) and I went back to the attendant to tell him what I thought of him (the language used was almost enough to make the male attendant cry; at that point we decided we should push on in the direction of Roslaire)

At Wicklow another few miles down the road the rain hit. It bucketed down all the way and we arrived like drowned rats at the ship "the Oscar Wilde".  We were told it would be like a floating hotel, and the sea "calm as an Icerink".  Gale force winds pounded the boat for 10 hours solid.  It was a rough crossing.  The shops were shut and people were wobbling all over the place.  We got a few pints in then went to lie down.

Early in the morning myself and Glen got up to see the sunrise which was nice.  Photo's below.  Glen went for a little late night jog.  Unforturnately photo's of this are below too.

We arrived in France four and a half hours later then scheduled and docked in the morning.
