The Plan
The plan: Drive our Bikes across Europe.
The Crew: Glen is the ultimate traveler, and has taken a guitar all across the Globe, but he is not a biker. Myself and Ado would have to turn him to the dark side. We would not have a lot of time to prepare him. So he would have to put his skill, courage and intelligence to good use. Unfortunately these are three traits that I've never actually seen exhibited in Glen. So he's got a tough job.
Ado had been fixing and regularly breaking motocross bikes the past 15 years. Myself and him have raced together on numerous occasions over the past 5 years. A lot of the time I'd let Ado win many of these races. I felt this would be good for his confidence levels and help him become a better and happier person.. Something which hasn't happened yet. Ado's girlfriend was pregnant at the time of planning, so in a few months time Ado was going to have his hands full. This was Ado's last chance for a long time to do something like this.
Me. Well I've been Motocrossing and Roadbiking for the past 5 years or so. I love bikes. And I've always wanted to do a long journey with my friends. I love photography and will be carrying a camera everywhere.
Me, Ado and Glen got talking about a bike trip. Glen mentioned his mate Derek was getting Married in a town south of Naples in Italy, called San Marco Castelabate. This would be the goal.
We decided that before we catch a boat and land in France with our bikes. We should do a test run in Ireland. Just before we left Glen bought a used Honda Deauville, so we were anxious to see if it (and him) could cope with a long journey.
The plan for the test run was to drive across Ireland to the west, camp somewhere for the night and then come back home. We would get a feel for the bikes and how it would be like to travel with each other. Also we'd get an idea of what we need to bring along with us.
