19th Aug - Leaving Ireland Arriving in Cherbourg France
We got off the ferry at about 2pm. Trying to get the Autocoms working was a pain. We gave up after half an hour. After these early difficulties they were nicknamed the Awfulcoms. (But later after we persevered we all got these working perfectly)
We headed for the city of Caen, but on the way we stopped off at Utah beach where the allies landed on D-Day. We spent about two hours there and as we went to leave it rained heavily again.
Without the Autocoms communication was difficult and we did a lap of Caen trying to find the A13. We got some good miles in then to Evereux, arriving in the dark at about 10pm. Some of this drive was in the rain. Glen and Ado got a bit eager to find a hotel quickly and lost me in the streets of Evereux in the Dark after I got stuck at a red light. This led to a rescue operation to find them. This operation was successful. We got a cheap hotel, with bed and brekfast for €32 each. The hotel put us onto a good restaurant for that night, where we just got some grub before they closed. We got a good nights sleep and got up on the 20th with Paris, Dijon and Switzerland ahead of us.
