23rd Aug - Aosta, Italy
Hungover after the crazy night out in Geneva we packed our gear away in the pissing rain and left the camping site at about 12:30 in the day. We headed south, through the alps with Mount Blanc in our sights. The scenery was nice but we were a little sick of the weather at this stage.
We drove through the Mount Blanc tunnel. Which was very warm (geothermalyl heated?) and just awful on a bike with a hangover. We went into the tunnel in France and came out in Italy. It was amazing when we came out the other side; The weather was lovely and visibility was excellent with barely any clouds in the sky. It's like Mt Blanc was a barrier for the awful weather. Coming out into the Italian sun on the other side was on of the nicest feeling's ever. My hangover just dissipated and I got a renewed excitement for the rest of this journey.
As it would happen, Excellent sunny weather would be the only weather we would have for the next few weeks.
Signposts showed the nearest town as Aosta. Without knowing anything about Aosta we headed there figuring it would do us for the Night. So we stopped in Aosta in north Italy. It was excellent, we had proper Italian pizza. This was also my first time ever in Italy. The helpful owner of the restaurant put us onto a cheap, but nice hotel, Hotel Mochettaz. We went out that night in Aosta and were pleasantly surprised to find a wonderful party atmosphere with great music at an Accordion festival which just happened to be going on when we got there.
