24th Aug - Back to the Alps, then on towards Lake Garda

We woke up to a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains through the window of our hotel in Aosta.  We are heading to Lake Garda today.  But we were a little disappointed that we missed a lot of the a high alpine roads yesterday when we took the Mt Blanc tunnel.

So we headed north of Aosta, back into switzerland on to Martigny and onto Simplon.  The drive was out of this world.  Winding roads up and down though the mountains for hours.  We did two High mountain passes, the Grand Saint Bernard pass and the Simplon Pass.  These were both amazing and went up so high that the bikes were well down on power compared to at sea level.  The scenery was just stunning. I stopped a few times to take photos, but there was just too much to photograph so for the most part I just put the camera away and enjoyed it.

Then we went south back into italy and on to milan, avoided the centre of milan and motorwayed on towards Lake Garda.  We arrived at Lake Garda at about 7Pm and jumped straight into the lake (much to the amusement of the locals).  This was just what the doctor order after a long drive. The campsite was excellent, right on the lake.  After our swim we set up camp and then We got a meal at the campsite and had some drinks and some nice italian red wine.  We hit the hay relatively early that night.
